Smart HR Consulting Secrets: What Should Employees Wear To work

Do you ever wonder what you should wear to work? This isn’t an easy concept in the current business world. The past of requiring men to wear suits/ties and women wear skirts suits with hosiery happen to be extinct; and I expect for good. That does not imply it does not matter or that anything goes with what employees wear at work. It most likely does. What workers wear is a direct reflection of them and it happens to be their responsibility to look decent.

Casual dress at work is now widely accepted. It really seems out of place for employers to set up unnecessary dress code requirements. I came across a post on this human resources consulting website and the associated comments (warning a few of them are not censored). I agree with hounding hr consultants as well as management in regards to unneeded dress code requirements yet I could not forget my past at a prior employer when we began casual Fridays (jeans). As in every different company I have worked at, a few workers straddled the edge or simply ignored the dress code entirely. Some workers began wearing inappropriate clothing such as graphic tees, flip-flops and tank tops.

I logically get the IT dude who is saying “Why should it matter if I wear flip flops, shorts and tee shirts to work when my job is only programming?” Yet, according to wise hr consulting, the reality is that this dude is part of a bigger community of professionals and a few basic dress standards are helpful. I did say PROFESSIONALS and while I do not feel a tie needs to be mandatory, being a slob or a hippie isn’t right for any company environment.

So I say “YES!” to a dress regulation. As the boss you will have defined your expectations and that is always great. Still, I warn you to be reasonable, focus on what is needed to perform good work and what is considered as main-stream, appropriate & decent in your workplace.
